Sirloin Cheese Burger with Yam Fries & Salad
This dish was inspired by my favorite burger from a place called Zaitzeff. Their burgers are delicious, but what really makes them special are the Portuguese buns that they use. I have looked long and hard for these buns, twice finding substandard versions. A few days ago I finally found them at Citarella and so came to be this very “summery” dish in the middle of winter. It was perfect… I just can’t wait until I... [Read More...]

Sometimes it’s the simple things that are the best, and that couldn’t be more true than with this salad. Paired with a bright and tangy vinaigrette, this dish is well rounded and balanced… perhaps one of my favorites! I could really eat this dish every day and not get sick of it. Ham Egg & Cheese Savory Crepe
What can I say about this other than the fact that I love crepes - savory or sweet - they are delectable. The crepe batter recipe below is classic and fantastic. I used some Buckwheat flour in it as I like the nutty flavor and color it imparts on the dish. But if you don’t have buckwheat flour, simply substitute with all purpose flour. You can also use this recipe for sweet crepes, add a bit more sugar or don’t - it will still be good.... [Read More...]
Strawberry Rhubarb Hand Pies
These were the most beautiful looking and fragrant strawberries at the market today. Spring is finally here! And the rhubarb were deep red and lovely. I didn’t want to make and entire pie so I decided to make hand pies with the fruit instead. The easy thing about hand pies is literally that you can take any pie crust recipe you use with any fruit filling recipe you use and make the hand-pies in their shapes instead of an entire pie. The pie... [Read More...]
Pear or Blueberry Crumb Top Muffins
Ladies Lunch… Pear Crumb Top Muffins I have been in the process of moving apartments over the past few weeks, and have been unable to have full access to a kitchen. Luckily, my friend Christina invited me and another friend over for a day of cooking and eating. She made a beautiful salmon nicoise salad for lunch followed by a delicious molten chocolate cake covered in butterscotch sauce. I made three batches of muffins. And then we made some... Cranberry Crumb Top Muffins
It was the first time since the season started that I went to the market and fresh cranberries were not there. Once again, that idea that I had been putting off finally hit me when the fresh fruit wasn’t available. So I made do with frozen cranberries. I learned my lesson - just do it when you see the fresh ingredients - why put it off? And with a recipe this easy, it didn’t take much time at all… lesson learned. These muffins... [Read More...]
Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, “ I LOVE BRUNCH!” I mean I really really love brunch… like the heavens open up and a choir of angels are singing “eggs, bacon, bread, salmon (and everything else good in-between)”. So it was time to try another brunch item that I have not been able to make successfully in the past - poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. And while I love the ordinary, I decided to change it up a little with... [Read More...]
Baked Eggs with Spinach, Brioche & Smoked Bacon
Sunday Brunch is one of my favorite times of the week, and this recipe has everything in it that I love to have on my brunch plate… well except bacon - which of course I had to add. This dish is so fantastically delicious! It just so happened though that as I was putting it in the oven, I realized that my oven wasn’t working properly. So I was forced to be creative with cooking it. While it was a definitely a bit overdone, I can guarantee... [Read More...]
